Wookey Hole

Over this weekend we have been to Wookey Hole in Somerset. We got tickets for Santaland so decided we would stay over night at the Wookey Hotel and spread the attractions out a bit.

Arriving shortly after 1pm we set about exploring the site starting with Santas reindeer and a goat who was living with them called Jack.

Clown memorabilia and wobbly mirrors came next, before we found the main attractions located within the mill. A soft play area (always a hit!!), a penny slot machine room that you needed real old pennies for and the best bit a hall of mirrors that 'J' hit at full pelt  - very funny!!

                                                        Arrrggghhhh so many of them!

We then found the old paper mill and the paper making machines where people were making paper by hand. Outside we came upon a divers area with a film to watch and the old diving suits to see. 'A'was quite interested by this and enjoyed watching the film showing the tiny chambers filled with water that the divers went through. Next was a circus area showing the freaks of nature that were so often the centre of such shows. I dont think 'J' really noticed what he was looking at, but 'A' definatly found the two headed animals and 8 legged lambs a bit disturbing!!

 So funny!!

 Fairy Garden

Next we came to Dinosaur Land, and found a fairy garden. The boys liked watching the various waterfalls and streams that came out of the caves and would have once been the power source for the paper mill.

Finally going to check into our Superior family room (!) we found that dinner was booked up until quite late and the littlies were already hungry - as usual - so we jumped in the car and went into the City of Wells just down the road. We walked around for a little bit looking at all the pretty lights with 'A' naming all the pubs that he knew (lots) his favourite being the Kings Head! We even saw a projector light show on one of the buildings.

Looking for somewhere to fill the boys hungry bellies we went into Ask, where 'J' actually ordered his own meal from the waitress and the pair of them demolished garlic bread and pepperoni pizza whilst drawing pictures and letters and counting to 10 in spanish.

Back at the hotel we all got ready for bed, the two boys snuggled up together on a sofa bed and 'H' in his cot, they nodded off quite quick and all slept soundly until morning!

So this morning after breakfast with the boys quizing Santa on his favourite lunch and telling him that if he came down the aga chimney he would get a burnt bottom, we were booked into Santaland and a visit to the caves.

Santaland was very pretty and snowy and the boys all liked it but were eager to actually get to Santa. They had a chat and were able to choose a present for being good (A) and being nearly good (J) its hard when you are 2. Even 'H' got a little book!

Last stop was the caves, they enjoyed the tour seeing the witch and her dog and listened to the guide better than some of the other visitors, big and small. Its very wet and slippery in the caves and parts are a bit smelly due to cheese being aged down there. 'A' said he would like a cave tunnel downstairs at home, but in the end we decided that it would be better as a cellar than a living room!!

A very busy weekend then and a long drive home, everyone had a nice time, with Santa being their 'best bit' and after baths and hot chocolate the littlies are all sleeping soundly hopefully until late monday morning!!
